“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
Today is Mother’s Day!
Sadly I cannot be with my mum this year, but I send her all my love and gratitude.
I think it is wonderful that we have a day like this, where we remember to thank our mums.
Because children tend to forget what their mums all did for them.
So I say thank you to all the mothers out there, that give up so much for their children and sometimes fight like a lion to get the best they can for them.
Thank you for all the lessons you try to teach us, even if it turns out that we are sometimes deaf when it comes to hear your wise words.
And thanks for being a hero and a role model for every child that is out there.
Thank you for preparing us to be alone out there someday.
You’re the ones we call, when we made a whole mess out of the kitchen, trying to cook something fancy. The ones that hug us when we need it the most. You’re the ones that are still there when everything else is a mess. The ones we call when we don’t know what to wear and no one else has the nerve to solve this problem with us.
It also can be hard for children and their mothers sometimes.
Let’s be honest, sometimes we wish our mothers would just keep their opinion to themselves or just mind their own business.Maybe also sometimes we give each other more than just a hard time.
But in the end of the day, mothers are the ones whose love is there forever, and has always been there.
No one is perfect, and no mother is perfect. But that is good too.
Because we can also learn from imperfections. And as John Steinbeck said,it takes courage to raise children. And I guess that you have to face your own faults over and over again.
And this is now especially to my own mum:
“You are evidence of your mother’s strength, especially if you are a rebellious knucklehead and regardless she has always maintained her sanity.”
So please, when I am being rebellious and not too much of a perfect daughter, you should remember that this is partially, because you are a strong woman, and this is also how you raised me. And maybe you can keep calm when I can’t, and the other way around.
That I didn’t drive you insane by now is really an evidence of your strength.
